GRAND RAPIDS, November 4, 2021 – Officials from Third Coast Development, PK Companies, Grand Valley State University, the City of Grand Rapids, and other project partners broke ground on a $12 million, 50-unit apartment complex in the flourishing Belknap Lookout neighborhood. The development is expected to open next fall.
Belknap Place is in the heart of the Belknap Lookout neighborhood, and it is considered an important project in the revitalization of this area. The goal of this development is to bring quality housing options back to the neighborhood and serve a diverse group of households.
“Several years ago, Neighbors of Belknap Lookout specifically requested that mixed income housing be provided on this block in order to replace the housing that was lost for the construction of GVSU’s Finkelstein Hall. We are so pleased to see this vision finally come to fruition and look forward to welcoming our new neighbors when construction is complete,” Elianna Bootzin, Executive Director of the local neighborhood association Neighbors of Belknap Lookout.
“Grand Valley is committed to the City of Grand Rapids and the neighbors near our health campus downtown,” said Philomena V. Mantella, President of Grand Valley State University. “We are proud to be a part of developing affordable housing options in the Belknap Lookout neighborhood, and it is wonderful to see the project coming to fruition.”
Belknap Place will be the third Grand Rapids affordable housing development owned by Third Coast Development and PK Companies. The duo opened Diamond Place just a mile away on Michigan Street and the Leo & Al development along Alpine and Leonard Streets on the west side of Grand Rapids.
Pioneer Construction will serve as the construction manager and Integrated Architecture is the architect.
