The Market Hall houses indoor stalls for food vendors, restaurants, a commercially certified production kitchen, a community demonstration kitchen with hydraulic tables with integrated sinks and cook tops to accommodate children, and event space that includes food demonstration facilities.
The Downtown Market was designed to use (50) 400 ft geo-thermal wells to provide two-thirds of the buildings heating and cooling needs. It has many areas with green roofs and live walls that house plants that help insulate the building. The roof-top greenhouses provide produce that vendors can buy directly from the market. These plants are watered from rainwater collected off the greenhouse and stored in an 8,000 gallon cistern, which also irrigates other plantings on the property.
Both the indoor and outdoor markets have been built with sustainable materials including, low VOC emitting materials, local and regional products, materials with recycled content and reclaimed materials such as wood salvaged from the buildings previously on the site.
