Effective Communication

Effective communication is critical to a successful construction program. Over four generations of family ownership, we have learned the importance of ‘seeking first to understand’ (from Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People). The process of design and construction can be complex and technical- sometimes with a language all its own. We understand that our clients are successful at what they do because they focus on doing what they do exceptionally well. When we are engaged as a construction partner, it is not only because of our expertise, but also because of our ability to effectively communicate. As such, we strive to keep ‘down to earth’ and always correspond in a clear and meaningful manner. As Albert Einstein said, “Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.”

We outline clear expectations for effective communication at the outset of every project. Paramount to this effort, is the accessibility of our Superintendents, Project Managers, and Executive Leadership. As such, every Superintendent, Project Manager, and Executive at Pioneer Construction is equipped with a smart phone. Our clients are provided with e-mail addresses and mobile numbers for all key members of the project team- answers and solutions are never more than a phone call or e-mail away!

Client updating and reporting is also critical to effective communication. We emphasize transparent and consistent updating and reporting at every stage of planning and construction. Current, complete, and accurate information enables sound decision making.

Our client updating and reporting procedures are tailored for each project depending on the desired level of involvement of the Owner and Architect and can include:

  • Real time, web-based document management and reporting
  • Weekly progress meetings and review of two-week ‘Look Ahead’ schedules
  • Weekly, Bi-Weekly, or Monthly Progress Reports
  • Monthly AIA Billing
  • Submittal Review
  • Change Order Management
  • Architect/Engineer Field Reports and Quality Control Reports
  • Materials Testing and Inspection Reports
  • Commission Reports

In addition, we provide updating and reporting in the method and with the frequency preferred by our client. This can include:

  • Face-to-Face Meetings
  • Video Conference Meetings
  • Teleconference Meetings
  • Web-based Client Access
  • E-mail
  • Facsimile
  • USPS
