Grand Rapids, Michigan
When KEM Aviation, LLC purchased Rapid Air they hired Pioneer Construction as a design-build contractor to transform a tired 30,000 SF hangar and office area into a state of the art FBO. The team worked within a limited budget and the project was developed to meet the program needs of the client while at the same time maximizing the visual impact of the renovation. The existing offices were demo'd to the steel structure and re-built, and additional offices were added on a second side of the hangar. The work was completed with careful consideration of Rapid Air's continuing operations during construction.
The design is very contemporary and utilizes angular lines and diverse materials to create an exceptional impression for visitors within the relatively small space. Steel, glass and masonry elements along with rich contrasting colors work together to create an environment that is comfortable and welcoming. The facility includes an entrance lobby, a reception lounge, two glass walled conference rooms with state of the art technology, private client offices, a media lounge and sleeping areas for pilots and crews.
