With his roots in the Netherlands, Earl Beckering Sr. had worked his way over to the United States as a carpenter on a ship and finally settled in Grand Rapids, MI. In 1933, he started his own business and called it Beckering Construction Company. Quickly he established a reputation for a strong work ethic, personal service, quality craftsmanship and a hands-on management approach and through the years those qualities have continued to be the company’s trademark. In 1962, under the leadership of Beckering’s son, Earl Beckering Jr., the company’s name was changed to Pioneer Construction, reflecting the expanding services and innovative spirit of the rapidly growing firm.
Today, Pioneer Construction’s legacy is built into the West Michigan landscape in many landmark buildings and institutions.
