GVSU Fred M. Keller Engineering Laboratory

Located at 301 W. Fulton in Grand Rapids, Michigan, this 33,000 square foot educational facility was built for $4.1 million. Designed by Jim VanderMolen of Progressive AE, the laboratory is located on the downtown Grand Rapids campus of Grand Valley State University. It was an addition to the GVSU Eberhard Center in downtown Grand Rapids. This building's design is rather unique in that all mechanicals and electricals have been left exposed so that students may observe how they function. Additionally, the glass elevator exposes the shaft and the hydraulic movements, again for teaching purposes, and the roof's observation deck spans the length of the building. The Engineering Lab is a structural steel building with a brick and glass facade and exposed galvanized steel on both the interior and exterior.
